The Senate’s shutdown funding deal includes a $203.5 million boost for lawmaker security, addressing rising threats of political violence, according to a GOP summary of the appropriations bill.

The legislation allocates $3.5 billion for congressional operations through September 2026 — with $2 billion for the House and $1.5 billion for the Senate.

Each senator’s office will receive $750,000 to fund around-the-clock security for themselves and their residences.

The Senate Sergeant at Arms will oversee expanded security programs, while the House Sergeant at Arms will receive $100 million to strengthen protection for members and their families.

The U.S. Capitol Police, responsible for safeguarding the Capitol complex, will receive $852.2 million under the deal.

Lawmakers from both parties have voiced concerns over escalating threats and attacks in recent years, prompting bipartisan support for enhanced personal and operational protection measures.
