Six citizens have sued President Donald Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, arguing that restrictions on news outlets undermine the public’s access to independent government reporting.

The lawsuit cites repeated restrictions on organizations including CNN and The Associated Press, which plaintiffs say have faced retaliation over coverage and editorial decisions.

Katie Fallow, deputy litigation director at the Knight First Amendment Institute, said the White House cannot control what information Americans receive by punishing critical reporting. The lawsuit seeks an injunction preventing enforcement of the bans.

A federal judge recently extended an order blocking the administration from enforcing media restrictions while litigation continues. The case joins separate legal challenges brought by The New York Times and ABC over the administration’s media-access policies.
