Slovakia And Austria Record Hottest Temperatures In History

Slovakia and Austria recorded their highest temperatures on record as an intense heatwave gripped Central Europe, according to the report.

Slovakia's Kamenica nad Hronom reached 41.4 degrees Celsius, while Austria's Bad Deutsch-Altenburg recorded 41.2 degrees Celsius, setting new national temperature records.

The report said the extreme heat comes as Europe continues to warm at roughly twice the global average rate since the 1980s, according to the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service.

Record-breaking temperatures have also been recorded this summer in the Czech Republic and Hungary, while Slovakia experienced its warmest night on record.

According to the report, the persistent heat has disrupted daily life, reduced daytime business activity and increased reliance on cooling measures across the region.

The report said the prolonged hot and dry conditions have also heightened wildfire risks, triggering evacuations in several parts of Europe and placing additional pressure on emergency services as the continent faces another summer of extreme weather.
