SpaceX has become the world’s largest internet satellite company, launching 406 Starlink satellites in May alone, a record month for Elon Musk’s Texas-based space technology company.
As of May 31, 2025, SpaceX has deployed 8,823 Starlink satellites in orbit around the Earth, according to Harvard astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell, who tracks satellite launches and publishes the data on his Space Pages website – https://planet4589.org.
The SpaceX tally accounts for approximately 40% of all satellites launched since Russia put Sputnik into orbit in 1957.
