Spain has rejected a White House claim that it agreed to cooperate with U.S. military operations related to the ongoing conflict with Iran, reaffirming its opposition to the war.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday that Spain had reversed its earlier stance and would allow cooperation with American forces. She suggested Madrid had responded to pressure from President Donald Trump, who urged European allies to support efforts against Iran.

Spain’s government quickly denied the statement. Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said the country’s position “has not changed at all,” according to Reuters. Madrid continues to oppose the conflict and will not allow its military bases to be used in operations tied to the war.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also criticized the escalating Middle East crisis, describing it as a “disaster.”
Tensions between Washington and Madrid have increased after Trump threatened to cut trade ties with Spain over defense spending and its refusal to back the military campaign.
