The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled against Colorado’s ban on so-called “conversion therapy” for minors, siding with a Christian counselor who argued the law violates free speech protections.
In an 8-1 decision, the court said the measure may unlawfully restrict speech based on viewpoint, according to reports.
Writing for the majority, Justice Neil Gorsuch said the First Amendment protects individuals from government efforts to limit certain perspectives. The case has been sent back to a lower court for further review under strict constitutional standards.

The report said the counselor, backed by the Trump administration, argued the law prevents faith-based discussions on gender identity. Colorado officials maintained the ban targets harmful practices while allowing open conversations.
In dissent, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson warned the ruling could weaken states’ ability to regulate healthcare. Legal experts said the decision could impact similar laws across multiple states, raising broader questions about speech and medical oversight.
