The Supreme Court on Monday cleared the way for the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS), given under former president Joe Biden, for approximately 350,000 Venezuelans.
In a brief order with only one dissent, the justices paused a lower court ruling from San Francisco that had blocked the administration from rescinding protections. The decision effectively allows the TPS designation for Venezuelans to expire, as the Trump administration had sought.
TPS permits individuals already in the U.S. to live and work legally if their home countries are deemed unsafe due to conflict or disaster. Venezuela was designated under TPS due to ongoing political and humanitarian crises.
