China has again signaled that Taiwan will be a central issue ahead of next week’s summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
According to AP, China’s Foreign Ministry urged Washington to strictly follow the “One China” policy, calling Taiwan the foundation of stable U.S.-China relations. Spokesman Lin Jian said the Taiwan issue sits at the “core of China’s core interests.”

The warning came days after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Washington should make the “right choices” regarding Taiwan.
The report said Beijing has increased military pressure around Taiwan in recent years through near-daily air and naval activity.
Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Steve Daines said both countries should seek stability rather than escalation. Discussions ahead of Trump’s China visit are also expected to include trade, Boeing sales, and tensions surrounding Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.
