A Florida teenager has withdrawn his lawsuit against Meta just days before a scheduled trial in Los Angeles over allegations that Instagram contributed to his mental health problems.

According to court filings, the plaintiff, identified as RKC, claimed his use of social media from around the age of eight led to addiction, sleep deprivation, depression, and anxiety.

The report said the lawsuit originally named several major social media companies, including Google's YouTube, Snap's Snapchat, ByteDance's TikTok, and Meta.

RKC later dropped his claims against Meta after YouTube and TikTok reached settlements earlier in June. Bloomberg also reported that Snap reached a tentative settlement shortly before the trial.

Although the withdrawal eliminates the immediate trial against Meta, broader legal challenges involving social media platforms and their potential impact on the mental health of young users continue to move through the courts, according to the report.
