Texas Killing Fields Case: Man Sentenced To 20 Years For Teen’s Death

James Dolphs Elmore Jr. was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday after a jury convicted him of manslaughter in the 1986 death of 16-year-old Laura Miller, the Associated Press reported.

Authorities have linked more than 30 deaths of girls and young women to the region since the 1970s, though most cases remain unsolved. Investigators have said multiple people may have been responsible.

Prosecutors had also targeted Clyde Hedrick, whom authorities alleged was involved in Miller’s death and other killings. Hedrick died by suicide before a grand jury could consider the cases, according to the report.

Miller’s father later founded Texas EquuSearch, which assists in searches for missing people.
