Todd Blanche, President Donald Trump's nominee for attorney general, cleared a key hurdle after the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance his nomination, reported by CNN. He now heads to the full Senate, where he will need support from nearly all Republican senators to secure confirmation.
According to the report, Blanche resolved the impasse by issuing documents formally rescinding the program and clarifying the scope of an IRS settlement involving President Trump and his family.
The report said Blanche has led the Justice Department on an acting basis since April, advancing several Trump administration priorities while keeping some politically sensitive investigations relatively quiet during the confirmation process.
If confirmed, Blanche is expected to revive high-profile investigations while overseeing issues including election integrity, immigration enforcement and major fraud cases.
