The Trump administration has renewed its push to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, filing a request with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ahead of a Sunday deadline. The move comes days before the central bank votes on interest rates, a decision closely watched by markets and the White House.
President Donald Trump has pressed the Fed to cut rates and has openly criticized Chair Jerome Powell. Cook, appointed during the Biden years, faces allegations of mortgage fraud raised by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte.
The administration argues that she misrepresented her finances and cannot be trusted to manage the U.S. money supply impartially.

Cook’s attorneys contend her removal would undermine central bank independence and harm economic stability, warning of higher inflation and interest rates. Her legal team asked the court to reject Trump’s bid.
