President Donald Trump said it is “pretty clear” the U.S. Constitution does not allow him to run for a third term, putting to rest speculation from allies who hinted at a possible 2028 bid.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea, Trump noted that while his approval ratings are at record highs, “I guess I’m not allowed to run, so we’ll see what happens.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed he had discussed the issue with the president and acknowledged that constitutional limits prevent another Trump run.

Despite some supporters, including Steve Bannon, suggesting otherwise, most Republican leaders have dismissed the idea.
Trump also rejected the notion of running as vice president to later reclaim the presidency, calling it “too cute” and “not right.”
