Some activists aligned with President Donald Trump are discussing extraordinary measures, including martial law, if they believe the November midterm elections are rigged, according to Axios. There is no evidence presented in the report that the elections will be rigged.
During a September 30 online call, Trump’s childhood friend and attorney Peter Ticktin said martial law might be necessary following another disputed election.
Tina Peters, a former Colorado county clerk convicted of crimes linked to an election equipment breach, has separately promoted paper ballots and manual recounts.
However, election law expert Derek Tisler told Axios that presidential emergency powers remain subject to constitutional and legal limits. Congress sets federal election dates, while states administer voting systems and vote counts.
The White House said Trump supports secure elections and counting every legal vote.
