President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance canceled campaign appearances days before midterm elections that could cost Republicans control of Congress.
Trump scrapped weekend rallies in Kansas and Iowa, replacing them with telephone events as the Republican National Committee seeks to reach voters in 19 states over 72 hours.
Vance canceled a Friday news conference in Minnesota on the administration’s anti-fraud initiative. The White House gave no reason.
The cancellations come as Trump’s approval ratings face pressure from rising gasoline prices and the prolonged war with Iran. Polling cited by the report shows Democrats leading on voter preference for congressional control. Forecasters see Democrats favored to win chambers.
Trump remains scheduled to rally in Florida Friday. No appearance is planned for the campaign’s final day.
