Retired Air Force Lt. Col. David Flippo has won the Republican primary in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, securing the party’s nomination in one of the state’s most closely watched races after receiving President Donald Trump’s endorsement late in the campaign.
The victory positions Flippo as the Republican candidate for the seat currently held by Rep.
Mark Amodei, who announced his retirement after 15 years in Congress. Amodei’s departure created a competitive contest for Nevada’s only Republican-controlled House district.
The primary also highlighted divisions within the state’s Republican establishment. While Trump endorsed Flippo, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo and Amodei backed former state Senator James Settelmeyer.
The competing endorsements turned the race into an early test of influence within the party ahead of the general election.
Flippo’s military background and support from Trump helped raise his profile during the final weeks of the campaign.
His victory underscores the continued strength of the president’s endorsement among Republican primary voters.
Attention will now shift to the general election, where Republicans will seek to retain the district and preserve one of their key congressional footholds in Nevada.
The race is expected to draw significant attention as both parties look to strengthen their positions ahead of the next Congress.
