Saudi Arabia’s national shipping company Bahri has confirmed that two crew members were killed in a security incident involving its oil tanker SIDR while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The two sailors, both Filipino nationals, died after the vessel was struck on Monday evening. Bahri said it remains in close contact with the remaining crew and is coordinating with relevant maritime authorities as the situation is assessed.

The company has not disclosed the precise cause of the damage or identified who was responsible for the strike, citing ongoing inquiries into the incident.

The deaths come amid heightened concerns over the safety of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.
