Republican Congressman John James has won Michigan's Republican primary for governor, earning the party's nomination for the November general election.
According to the report, James, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump, defeated businessman Perry Johnson and will now face Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson in one of the country's most closely watched gubernatorial contests.
The report said James campaigned on repealing Michigan's 2023 Clean Energy and Jobs Act, describing it as his top priority if elected.
He also highlighted economic growth, immigration enforcement and support for the military as key elements of his campaign platform.
If elected in November, James would become Michigan's first Black governor. Supporters said his ability to connect with voters and address key state issues positions him as a strong contender in the general election.
