In a Truth Social post, Trump described the appointment as a fitting tribute to Graham, noting his close relationship with his sister. According to the report, Graham became Nordone's legal guardian in his early 20s after both their parents died within 15 months.

Under South Carolina law, the governor can appoint a temporary replacement. However, because Graham was seeking reelection this year, the state will also hold a rapid primary election to choose a Republican nominee for the November ballot, the report said.
