President Donald Trump said Monday that Russia has “lost control” of its diesel industry because of the ongoing war with Ukraine and called for an end to the conflict.
Trump said Ukrainian attacks had damaged a large number of Russian refineries, leaving some facilities temporarily out of operation.
Trump has repeatedly urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries. According to Axios, he again raised the issue during a September 20 phone call with Zelensky, linking the attacks to rising global diesel prices. The two leaders are expected to meet in New York this week.
Global refining capacity is operating near its limits, leaving limited room to quickly replace lost supplies.
Trump said the war is harming the wider global economy and called for the fighting to end, while the conflict continues to disrupt energy markets and infrastructure.
