President Donald Trump did not acknowledge Juneteenth, the holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Late Thursday night, he criticized the number of non-working holidays in the country.
Juneteenth, which became a federal holiday under former President Biden, did not receive any public remarks recognizing the day’s significance from President Trump.
Instead, he posted on Truth Social without naming the holiday, saying there are “too many non-working holidays” that are “costing our country billions of dollars to keep all of these businesses closed.”
Most businesses, however, remained open on Juneteenth.
While prior presidents have issued statements or hosted events to honor Juneteenth, Trump has not done so during his second term.
