President Donald Trump will campaign in Michigan next week as the battleground state begins early in-person voting ahead of its August 4 primary election.

The visit comes as Republicans seek to strengthen their position in a state expected to play a major role in the 2026 midterm elections.

The Republican Senate primary remains uncontested, with Mike Rogers running unopposed. However, the race for the party's gubernatorial nomination has become increasingly competitive. Trump has endorsed U.S. Rep. John James, who is facing businessman Perry Johnson, according to the report.

Early voting begins Saturday, with voters also set to choose nominees for U.S. House seats and other statewide offices.

The report said Michigan Republicans are navigating a difficult political landscape shaped by rising fuel prices, the unpopular war in Iran, and tariffs that have weighed on the state's auto industry.

Both parties consider Michigan a key battleground as Republicans work to protect their narrow congressional majorities.
