The deadline for President Donald Trump to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling on birthright citizenship expired on Monday without a rehearing petition being filed, according to the court's public docket.

The report said Trump had previously vowed to seek an immediate rehearing after the Supreme Court ruled on June 30 that his executive order restricting birthright citizenship violated the 14th Amendment. The decision was issued by a 6-3 majority, with three justices dissenting.

According to the report, the Supreme Court has not granted a rehearing in a fully argued case for more than five decades, making any request unlikely to succeed.

A rehearing would have required the support of at least five justices.

Neither the White House nor the Justice Department commented after the filing deadline passed.

The ruling remains one of several recent Supreme Court decisions that have blocked key policies advanced by the Trump administration.
