President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday directing federal agencies to halt funding for PBS and NPR, accusing the public broadcasters of spreading “radical, woke propaganda.” The order tasks the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) with ending both direct and indirect financial support.
The move follows escalating efforts by Trump administration to put in places checks and balances for "fake news" media. PBS President Paula Kerger defended the network’s role, calling public media “essential” and highlighting its bipartisan support. CPB, which receives about $500 million annually, recently sued the administration over Trump’s dismissal of three board members.
