Trump Pushes Congress To Void His Two Impeachments, WSJ Reports

Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in 2019 and again in 2021, but was acquitted by the Senate both times and remained in office.

President Donald Trump and his allies are urging Congress to pass a resolution that would void the two impeachment votes he faced during his first term, according to a White House official.

🇺🇸
The report by Wall Street Journal said Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in 2019 and again in 2021, but was acquitted by the Senate both times and remained in office.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson described the impeachment efforts as politically motivated and said some lawmakers are interested in reversing them.

Trump’s first impeachment stemmed from allegations that he sought assistance from Ukraine to investigate then-rival Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 election. His second impeachment followed the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

🗳️
According to Dr. Carla Winston of the University of Melbourne, Congress could potentially attempt to repeal the impeachment votes, but any action would be largely symbolic because the Senate trials already concluded without convictions.

The report suggested the effort may be aimed at strengthening Trump’s historical legacy and countering one of the most contentious chapters of his presidency before attention shifts toward the 2028 presidential race.
