President Donald Trump said the United States' campaign against the International Criminal Court is intended to protect Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others from prosecution rather than to shield himself.
Speaking at Camp David on Friday, Trump said the administration's efforts are focused on opposing what it views as the court's overreach.
According to the report, Trump's criticism of the ICC intensified after the court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November 2024 over alleged war crimes in Gaza. The administration has since expanded its campaign against the tribunal.
The report said the Trump administration plans to encourage additional countries to withdraw from the ICC while pursuing sanctions and travel restrictions against the court. ICC judges and U.S. advocacy groups have challenged those measures in court, arguing they violate free speech protections.
