President Donald Trump faced criticism after appearing to suggest Iran could target Los Angeles or San Diego during remarks about the ongoing war, according to CNN.
Speaking at a Nebraska rally, Trump argued that the costs associated with the conflict were justified by efforts to protect the United States. He mentioned the two California cities while discussing the potential consequences of an Iranian nuclear threat.
California officials strongly criticized the remarks. Gov. Gavin Newsom called them dangerous, while Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said their cities should not be treated as expendable.
Republican congressional candidate Jim Desmond also rejected the comments, saying protecting Americans is the president’s primary responsibility.
Trump again predicted that the Iran war would end soon, despite the conflict having continued for seven months.

The mayors of Los Angeles and San Diego have condemned President Donald Trump after he suggested at a Nebraska campaign rally that Iran could "take out" the two California cities. Defending the war with Iran, Trump said it was a "small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe," adding: "They can take out a city. Let 'em take out Los Angeles. Let 'em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."
