President Donald Trump on Tuesday defended Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, insisting that MBS “knew nothing” about the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
His remarks contradict a 2021 U.S. intelligence assessment that concluded the crown prince ordered the killing, citing his absolute control over Saudi security forces.

Responding to questions about his family’s business ties with Saudi Arabia, Trump dismissed concerns and described Khashoggi as “extremely controversial.” He praised MBS as “incredible on human rights,” even as the crown prince made his first White House visit since the killing.
Khashoggi’s widow, Hanan Khashoggi, pushed back on social media, saying there is “no justification” for her husband’s murder.
The 2021 report from U.S. intelligence agencies found it “highly unlikely” the operation could have taken place without MBS’s authorization.
Bin Salman maintains he had no prior knowledge but said in a 2019 CBS interview he bore responsibility as Saudi Arabia’s leader.
