Trump Seeks $230 Million From DOJ Over Past Investigations: NYT Report

President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump is seeking $230 million in compensation from the Department of Justice (DOJ) over its past investigations into him, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

The claims, filed through an administrative process that could lead to lawsuits, allege misconduct in two major probes: the Russia election interference investigation and the FBI’s 2022 search of Mar-a-Lago for classified documents.

Trump argues that federal authorities violated his rights and caused reputational harm. One claim, submitted in 2023, targets the Russia probe; another, filed in 2024, accuses the FBI of overreach during the Mar-a-Lago raid.

The DOJ case tied to those classified documents was later dismissed by a Florida judge, and the department dropped its appeal after Trump’s 2024 re-election.

At a recent White House event, Trump jokingly remarked that as president, he is now “suing himself” since his administration oversees the department he’s demanding payment from.
