President Donald Trump is reviving the Presidential Fitness Test, a decades-old initiative to promote physical activity among American schoolchildren. A White House official confirmed that Trump will sign an executive order Thursday reestablishing the fitness test and the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
Originally launched in 1966, the test measures physical performance with situps, pushups, and timed runs. It was phased out in 2012 under President Obama in favor of individual health benchmarks.

Trump’s order will place Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in charge of administering the program. The revived council will also create a new Presidential Fitness Award.
The move aligns with Trump’s broader push to promote American strength and sports culture as the nation prepares to host the 2025 Ryder Cup, 2026 FIFA World Cup, and 2028 Olympics.
