President Donald Trump announced that the United States intends to lift its naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, signaling a potential easing of tensions in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said ships stranded by the U.S. blockade could begin returning home. The announcement came as Washington and Tehran continue to navigate a broader standoff over regional security, shipping access and Iran’s nuclear program.

According to the report, both the United States and Iran had maintained separate restrictions on tanker traffic through the narrow waterway. The disruption significantly affected global energy markets, as roughly 20% of the world’s crude oil normally passes through the strait during peacetime.
Trump’s statement appeared to come ahead of a Situation Room meeting where a final decision was expected. The president reiterated several conditions for Iran, including keeping the waterway open and toll-free, removing undersea mines, and addressing concerns over highly enriched uranium, which he referred to as “nuclear dust.”
The report said a reopening of the route could help ease pressure on global oil and fuel prices.
