Saudi Arabia is facing mounting pressure to respond after Iran-backed Houthi forces expanded their presence in Yemen and increased threats near the Red Sea, according to CNN.
The Houthis recently seized Perim Island and the port town of Mocha, strengthening their position near the Bab al-Mandeb, a vital shipping route. A separate drone attack also shut down Saudi Arabia’s key East-West oil pipeline.
President Donald Trump blamed Iran for the attack, although no group claimed responsibility.
Political negotiations remain possible, but experts cited by CNN believe Saudi Arabia may have exhausted that approach.
The United States has provided limited intelligence support but has resisted direct military intervention against the Houthis. Saudi officials are reportedly seeking stronger international backing before launching a major retaliation, amid fears that further escalation could widen the regional conflict.
