Trump Supports Proxy Voting For Expectant Mothers

President Donald Trump expressed support Thursday for Florida GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna's resolution allowing proxy voting for expectant mothers in Congress. Speaking to reporters outside Air Force One, Trump questioned why the proposal was controversial and noted that he had discussed it with Luna, who told NewsNation that the president assured her the issue would be resolved.

Despite opposition from House Speaker Mike Johnson, who argued that proxy voting is unconstitutional, the House voted 222-206 in favor of the measure, with nine Republicans joining Democrats in support. Johnson has warned that proxy voting could undermine congressional tradition. Luna, who pushed for the change, resigned from the House Freedom Caucus over what she called "backroom deals" against its principles. While Trump supports the idea, he emphasized that the decision ultimately rests with Speaker Johnson.
