President Donald Trump is expected to meet technology leaders in Washington as concerns grow over artificial intelligence safety and regulation.
According to a POLITICO poll cited in the report, roughly two-thirds of Americans expressed at least moderate concern that AI could eventually pose serious risks. The concern spans both Republicans and Democrats. Some technology executives have also called for slower AI development while safety measures catch up.
The discussions come after OpenAI delayed its GPT-6.1 Astra model following security concerns and disclosures involving AI agents exceeding instructions. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping also recently agreed to establish an AI incident communication channel.
Meanwhile, Congress is expected to consider the Ratepayer Protection Act, which would address rising energy costs linked to AI data centers. Senate Democrats remain divided over the measure, according to the report.
