President Donald Trump warned that US military operations against Iran will escalate sharply if Tehran fails to engage in peace talks in the coming days, according to remarks made during a Fox News interview.
His comments came after US Central Command carried out fresh strikes on Iran, while Tehran responded with attacks targeting multiple Gulf nations.
The report said Trump also withdrew an earlier proposal to impose a 20% fee on cargo transiting the Strait of Hormuz, saying Gulf states would instead compensate the United States through future investments.
The latest escalation follows US strikes launched last week after attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices remained elevated, with Brent crude trading above $85 per barrel as uncertainty over the strategic waterway continued to weigh on global energy markets.
