President Donald Trump intensified his feud with Illinois officials as National Guard deployments in Chicago, Portland, and Memphis face mounting legal and political challenges.
Trump called for the jailing of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, accusing them of failing to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers amid escalating protests.

Federal courts are reviewing the legality of Trump’s troop deployments, which his administration links to violence at ICE facilities.
In Chicago, Judge April Perry delayed a ruling while Guard troops continued training. In Portland, Judge Karin Immergut temporarily blocked the mobilization, prompting an appeal to the Ninth Circuit.
Trump has suggested invoking the Insurrection Act if courts obstruct his plans, saying, “If people were being killed… sure I’d do that.” The administration maintains the actions are necessary to restore order, while critics accuse Trump of abusing executive power for political gain.
