Ahead of his highly anticipated meeting with Canada’s newly appointed Prime Minister Mark Carney, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social, expressing frustration over the financial dynamics between the U.S. and Canada. In a post, Trump questioned why America continues to subsidize Canada by $200 billion annually, in addition to providing free military protection.

He also criticized Canada’s dependence on U.S. resources, such as cars, energy, and lumber, stating, "We don’t need anything they have, other than their friendship." Trump made it clear that his primary focus during the meeting would be this issue, calling it the "only question of consequence."
