Trump Urges Ohio Voters To Back Republicans Ahead Of Crucial Senate Race

Trump focused heavily on immigration, criticized Somali and Haitian communities, and attacked Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown.

President Donald Trump began a week of campaigning in Republican-leaning states with an Ohio rally on Monday, seeking to energize supporters as Republicans defend a Senate seat that could influence control of Congress, according to CNN.

During his nearly 90-minute speech, Trump focused heavily on immigration, criticized Somali and Haitian communities, and attacked Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown.

He portrayed Brown as aligned with left-wing political movements and urged voters to consider the national consequences of the Ohio contest. The rally featured several disruptions, including a reported altercation between an attendee and a protester. Some seating near the press area also remained empty.

Trump’s visit comes as early voting data indicated stronger Democratic participation than at the same stage of Ohio’s previous election cycle. CNN polling released last week showed Brown leading Republican Sen. Jon Husted by six percentage points.

Trump is scheduled to campaign in Alaska and Montana next.
