President Donald Trump has renewed his call for permanent daylight saving time, urging the Senate to approve legislation passed by the House that would eliminate the twice-yearly clock changes.
According to the report, Trump said Americans have long supported the change, describing the current practice of changing clocks twice a year as inconvenient and unnecessarily costly.
The report said the House recently approved the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025 by a vote of 308-117. The legislation would make daylight saving time the permanent standard across the United States.
Trump called on Senate Republicans to support the bill, arguing that it is an issue capable of attracting bipartisan backing.
However, Congress repealed the measure the following year after public safety concerns, including reports of predawn traffic accidents involving schoolchildren.
The proposal continues to face opposition from some lawmakers. The report said Senator Tom Cotton warned that adopting permanent daylight saving time would result in excessively late winter sunrises in many parts of the country.
