Legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent has gained momentum in Congress with backing from President Donald Trump.
According to the report, the House of Representatives advanced the Sunshine Protection Act after it cleared the House Rules Committee, moving the proposal closer to a full vote before it heads to the Senate.
The report said the bill would eliminate the twice-yearly clock changes by keeping daylight saving time in effect throughout the year.
According to the report, supporters argue that permanent daylight saving time would encourage outdoor recreation, tourism, and economic activity while reducing disruptions to sleep and mental health.
Critics, however, warn that later winter sunrises could create challenges for farmers and others who begin work early in the morning.
If approved by both chambers of Congress, the legislation would be sent to President Trump for his signature.
