Washington, DC, has filed suit against the Trump administration, accusing the president of illegally deploying thousands of National Guard troops without local approval.
DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb argues the move violates the Constitution and federal law, with Guard members deputized by U.S. Marshals to patrol neighborhoods, make arrests, and conduct searches.

The lawsuit contends that the federal deployment undermines the city’s autonomy, damages its economy, and erodes public trust.
President Trump ordered the Guard into DC on August 11 as part of his anti-crime agenda, highlighting a sharp drop in violent crime since federal forces arrived. Critics, including Mayor Muriel Bowser, say the mission is unnecessary, costly, and politically motivated.
