Senator Thom Tillis, R-N.C., said Tuesday he would not support President Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., likely dooming Ed Martin’s confirmation. Martin, a prominent “Stop the Steal” organizer and ally of January 6 defendants, has drawn sharp criticism. Tillis, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, cited Martin’s involvement with January 6th defendants as disqualifying for the post.

"If he were being put forward for any other district, I'd probably support him — but not this one," Tillis said. The committee’s narrow GOP majority means Tillis’ opposition could block Martin’s advancement. Trump has lobbied senators to back Martin, calling his confirmation “imperative” on Truth Social. Martin’s interim term ends May 20.
