U.S.-Iran Reached Draft 60-Day Peace Memo, Awaiting Final Trump Approval

U.S. and Iranian negotiators have successfully drafted a 60-day memorandum of understanding (MoU) to extend their current ceasefire and kick-start negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program, Axios reported on Thursday. However, the deal remains on hold as President Donald Trump weighs the details.

According to two U.S. officials who spoke to Axios, the framework was largely finalized by Tuesday. While Iranian negotiators notified mediators that they secured internal approvals to sign, President Trump requested "a couple of days to think about it" after his briefing.

The report states that the draft guarantees entirely "unrestricted" commercial shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, strictly prohibiting Iranian tolls or harassment. Additionally, Iran must clear all naval mines within 30 days and commit to abandoning nuclear weapon development. In exchange, the U.S. will lift its naval blockade and discuss sanctions relief.
