U.S. Central Command said Tuesday that American forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers, including the M/T Kaviz and M/T Derya, following repeated ballistic missile attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps against a U.S. Navy warship.
CENTCOM said no American personnel were injured in the attacks. Iranian forces also launched ballistic missiles at Jordan’s Muwaffaq al-Salti airbase, but Jordanian authorities reported no casualties.
Analysts say the tanker strikes are aimed at disrupting a multibillion-dollar network allegedly used to finance the IRGC.
The escalating conflict is also threatening commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy chokepoint through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
