President Donald Trump has warned China of a potential 50% tariff if it is found supplying military equipment to Iran, following reports of a possible shipment of shoulder-fired air defense missiles. Trump, speaking to Fox News, said he doubted the reports but warned of “staggering” consequences if confirmed.
The report, cited by CNN, suggested U.S. intelligence had flagged a potential Chinese transfer of MANPADS to Tehran. However, Beijing has not confirmed any such move and has maintained that it is working to promote peace, according to official statements.

Analysts said China has so far been cautious in its support for Iran, largely driven by economic interests, particularly energy imports. The report said any confirmed arms transfer would mark a shift and increase geopolitical tensions.
Meanwhile, Trump’s tariff threat adds pressure ahead of his planned summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as uncertainty grows over both U.S.-China ties and the broader Middle East conflict.
