Uber announced Tuesday that it will acquire US corporate catering platform ezCater for $2.3 billion in an all-cash deal, expanding its food-delivery operations into workplace meals and business catering.
Boston-based ezCater connects businesses with more than 140,000 restaurants and recorded more than $2.5 billion in gross bookings over the past 12 months. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said catering represents a significant opportunity for restaurants and the company.
ezCater CEO Nihad Rahman said the company is looking forward to bringing its business-to-business expertise to Uber. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the coming months.
The deal follows Uber’s broader expansion strategy, including its planned $15 billion acquisition of Delivery Hero’s foodpanda business.
