FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing renewed criticism after senior officials from UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation accused FIFA leadership of undermining trust and called for an independent review.
In an open letter, the soccer governing bodies criticized FIFA's handling of the now-abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, which sought to transfer some commercial and operational rights for major competitions to private investors.
According to CNN, the letter follows FIFA's apology over how the proposal was presented and its criticism of what it called efforts to undermine Infantino.
UEFA continues to threaten a boycott of FIFA competitions, including the Under-20 Women's World Cup in September. The three confederations said an independent investigation should examine how the FFE proposal was developed and presented.
Infantino retains support from the Confederation of African Football and several national associations, including Argentina and Mexico, highlighting the growing divisions within global soccer.
