UEFA Set To End FIFA Tournament Boycott Threat, AP Reports

UEFA is expected to abandon its threat to boycott future FIFA tournaments, potentially easing a months-long dispute between European soccer's governing body and FIFA, according to the Associated Press.

UEFA members voted in July to boycott tournaments after a controversial FIFA proposal to sell part of the commercial and operational rights to the World Cup was leaked.

FIFA later withdrew the plan and apologised, but UEFA initially maintained its boycott threat.

Following further discussions, UEFA has reportedly received assurances that the proposed rights-sale project will not be revived. Members are expected to meet Thursday to formally end the boycott.

The development removes the immediate threat of European teams withdrawing from upcoming FIFA competitions. In particular, six European teams, including host Poland, are now expected to participate in next week's FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

FIFA welcomed the development, saying it was pleased that all qualified teams would participate and emphasising soccer's ability to unite people despite disagreements between governing bodies.
