What Did Trump Say About Calls To Replace FIFA Chief Infantino

President Donald Trump has publicly backed FIFA President Gianni Infantino as pressure mounts for the soccer chief to resign, CNN reported.

Trump said FIFA would make a “terrible mistake” by replacing Infantino and praised his leadership of what Trump called the most successful World Cup.

UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation recently called for leadership changes and an independent review of how the proposal was handled.

Trump and Infantino have developed a close relationship around this year’s World Cup. Trump was also awarded FIFA’s inaugural Peace Prize, while the FFE proposal drew scrutiny over its proposed investors.

According to CNN, it remains unclear whether Trump’s intervention will ease pressure on Infantino, who is fighting to retain control of FIFA.
