Five UK nationals have been arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack near RAF Fairford, an English air base used by US military aircraft, according to British counter-terrorism police.
The suspects, all London residents aged 23 to 25, were detained early Sunday near the base. Police have not disclosed what was found in three white vans linked to the incident. Authorities said the investigation remains complex and involves several new lines of inquiry.
The arrests come amid heightened tensions with Iran. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard had previously warned that bases supporting US operations against Iran could be considered legitimate targets. Tehran’s embassy rejected suggestions linking Iran to the arrests.
President Donald Trump praised British authorities, saying the suspects had been under observation. UK officials have not confirmed that claim or disclosed a motive for the alleged plot.
